How do I know if I can redeem Membership Rewards® points for my travel booking on the American Express Travel site?
During the travel booking process, you will be asked to log in to the American Express site. At that time, if your American Express® Card is eligible, you'll be given your available Membership Rewards point balance.
How do I know if my Card is eligible to use Membership Rewards Pay with Points at the American Express Travel site?
You must use an American Express Card in good standing that is enrolled in the Membership Rewards program, the Membership Rewards Options® program, or the Membership Rewards Plus® program. You must also be the basic Cardmember of the Membership Rewards account.
How can I redeem Membership Rewards points toward my travel booking on the American Express Travel site?
Flight, Lowest Rates Guaranteed Hotel or Flight + Hotel
- Search for a flight, Lowest Rates Guaranteed hotel or Complete Trip package (Flight + Hotel).
- On the "Review and Continue" page, choose to "Log In/Register your American Express Card."
- Log in to your to access the point balance of your Membership Rewards account. See how many points are needed for your travel selection.
- On the "Complete Your Purchase" page, choose to redeem points for all or just part of your trip.
- Search for and select the cruise itinerary and cabin of your choosing.
- Enter your passenger information.
- When it's time to check out, enter your Membership Rewards enrolled American Express Card information and select "Yes" to find out how many Membership Rewards points are in your account.
- Choose to redeem points for your whole cruise or just part of it.
Are there any blackout dates or restrictions when I use Membership Rewards points toward my travel itinerary?
No. Using an eligible American Express Card, Membership Rewards enrollees can redeem points toward any flight, Lowest Rates Guaranteed hotel stay, Complete Trip package (Flight + Hotel) or cruise itinerary available on the American Express Travel site.
In the past, I have redeemed Membership Rewards points for frequent flyer miles with Membership Rewards partner airlines. How is this different?
You still have the ability to redeem points with our travel partners, either by transferring Membership Rewards points into linked frequent flyer or frequent guest accounts, or by redeeming points for travel certificates. For more information, please visit AMTTravel.com or call 1-800-999-2599.
On the American Express Travel site, you can redeem Membership Rewards points to fly virtually any airline without blackout dates or restrictions. The number of points needed for the redemption will vary based on the cost of travel selected. Book online at AMT American Express Travel and choose to redeem points for all or just part of your travel selection. The choice is yours on the "Complete Your Purchase" page.
Can I redeem points toward my travel booking at the American Express Travel site by phone?
No. This benefit is available exclusively online or on the phone. To redeem points toward your travel itinerary, you must book your trip with an American Express Travel Represenative
Are any airlines not available on the American Express Travel site?
Jet Blue, Southwest and British Airways are not available on the American Express Travel site. However, Jet Blue and Southwest are Membership Rewards program partner airlines. You can transfer points into linked frequent flyer accounts of these airlines by calling 1-800-999-2599.
When will I see how many points I need to redeem toward my travel booking?
Flight, Lowest Rates Guaranteed Hotel or Flight + Hotel
After selecting your travel itinerary and logging in to your American Express Card account with an eligible Card, you will be shown the number of points needed for your travel booking.
Cruise
After selecting your cruise itinerary and entering your American Express Card account information, you will be shown the number of points needed for your cruise booking.
Is there a fee for redeeming Membership Rewards points for my travel booking on the American Express Travel site?
No. There is no fee to redeem points, but there is a service charge for any airline tickets purchased online at the American Express Travel site.
How do I book a Flight + Hotel (Complete Trip package) using points?
At americanexpress.com/travel select "Flight + Hotel" in the search box. Continue to book according to the steps outlined above under "How can I redeem Membership Rewards points toward my travel booking on the American Express Travel site?"
How do I know how many points I will need for my travel booking?
Flight, Lowest Rates Guaranteed Hotel or Flight + Hotel
After you log in to the American Express Travel site with an eligible Card, the "Review and Continue" page will display:
- The number of Membership Rewards points needed for your entire travel booking
- Your available Membership Rewards point balance
Cruise
Once you have selected a cruise, proceed to the Credit Card Information page and follow these three steps:
- Enter your American Express Card account information
- Select the option to check eligibility and balance
- Click "Continue"
How will the charges appear on my monthly American Express Card statement?
The charge for your full travel booking will appear on your American Express Card account. A credit will appear to offset the amount of the booking covered with points. Membership Rewards points that are redeemed will be automatically and permanently deducted from your Membership Rewards account.
Can I have points returned to my account after I have redeemed Membership Rewards points for a travel booking?
No. All Membership Rewards program redemptions are considered permanent and cannot be converted back into your account.
What if I need to change my itinerary after redeeming points for a travel booking?
You can make changes to your itinerary according to the terms and conditions of the supplier of the travel you are purchasing. All Membership Rewards redemptions are considered permanent.
Can I redeem Membership Rewards points for travel bookings on any other sites?
No. You can redeem Membership Rewards points at the time of travel booking only at the American Express site.
Can I book travel for someone other than myself using Membership Rewards points?
Yes. After reviewing your trip itinerary, enter the correct passenger information. As long as you've logged in using your own User ID and Password, you'll see your American Express Card and Membership Rewards account information on the "Complete Your Purchase" page.
What if I don't have enough points to redeem for an entire travel itinerary?
You can still redeem points toward your travel booking. Select the amount of points you would like to redeem on the "Complete Your Purchase" page of the site and pay the balance, if there is one, with your Card.
What if I want to redeem Membership Rewards points for only part of my travel booking?
Flight, Lowest Rates Guaranteed Hotel and Flight + Hotel
On the "Complete Your Purchase" page, select the option to specify the amount of Membership Rewards points you would like to redeem instead of the option to cover the full cost with Membership Rewards points.
Cruise
You must redeem all available Membership Rewards points up to the cost of the booking. Once you have used all available points, the balance of your cruise booking will be charged to your American Express Card
